COVID-19 Update 8

Maryland-Strong-Back-to-Business-Pledge-COVID-19.jpg

Over the last months, we have been carefully watching the COVID-19 statistical trends in both Maryland and Anne Arundel County. Both jurisdictions have seen downward trends in cases, hospitalizations, deaths, and positivity rates, which have continued for much longer than the recommended two week window. Based on these encouraging signs, GHS has decided to start taking on some inside jobs starting July 1. We will evaluate each job on a case by case basis, and we reserve the right to decline or postpone any job that we do not yet feel safe doing. We will start by scheduling jobs on our waitlist in order of priority, so please be aware that it may still be some time before we are ready for your particular job.

To facilitate this transition, GHS has taken the Maryland Strong Back to Business Pledge and initiated new policies to protect the health of our employees and clients. We are asking our clients to:

  • Answer a few questions about your household’s precautions against COVID-19.

  • Avoid the work area as much as possible for 24 hours prior to the start of a job. We recognize that this is difficult in high-use areas, such as kitchens or bathrooms, and only request a good-faith effort to move activities to another area of the house when feasible.

  • Stay out of the work area when our employees are on-site, and wear face masks when talking to our employees.

  • Cancel your scheduled work if you or your close contacts are showing symptoms of COVID-19. In this situation, we will waive our cancellation fee. If our employees arrive at a job where you or someone else is showing symptoms of COVID-19, they will leave, the job will be postponed, and you may be charged a $50 service fee.

We are also requiring our employees to:

  • Undergo a temperature check each morning, and stay home if they have a fever or any other symptoms of COVID-19.

  • Stay at least 6 feet from others (clients and coworkers) when possible.

  • Wear masks and gloves at all times.

  • Wash their hands often.

  • Clean and disinfect the job site, tools, and any frequently touched objects and surfaces at the beginning and end of each day.

  • Open windows to air out the job site at the beginning of the day.

With these procedures in place, we hope to create a safe and healthy environment for our clients and our employees. We look forward to working with you!

After a journey through academia (St. John’s College and the University of St Andrews), I now work for my family’s home repair business. I work hard to balance this with my real full-time job: having a physical disability. If you really want to get to know me, talk to me about my favorite authors and books: the Inklings, Jane Austen, Dante Alighieri, and the collected writings in the Bible.
